Friends of the Great Bend Public Library met on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 7pm in the Kansas Room at the Library.
Guest speaker was author Sandra Vink (Jessica Matthews)
Sandra grew up on a farm in western Kansas where her favorite pastime was reading. According to her family, she always had her nose in a book. interest in medicine took her into the exciting field of medical technology. Eventually, she became a Laboratory Supervisor. After her youngest son left home for college, she decided to pursue another dream - to become a full-time fiction writer!
Her awards include: Finalist, 2009 National Readers Choice Awards (Oklahoma RWA), Traditional Category - "His Baby Bombshell" Wisconsin Romance Writers of America, 2002 Write Touch Reader's Award, First Place, Traditional Category, for "A Nurse's Patience" (Mills & Boon, Ltd) Romance Writers of America, Chapter Newsletter contest, editor 1996, Winner, Division I, Wichita Area Romance Authors, "The Prairie Rose"

Children's Summer Program
The 2010 Children’s Summer Reading Club Make a Splash! Read! was a great success. We had 304 children sign up this year 202, read at least one book and 127 met their goal. The programs were very well attended ranging from thirty to sixty two children for each program. The children really enjoyed putting a fish with their name on it on the wall for every book that they read. The staff was very busy cutting out all of the fish and the Children’s Room looked great covered in fish! We can’t wait for next year’s program!
